EssaysI have always been drawn to the essay as a vehicle for presenting my thinking and scholarship. I appreciate the personal and speculative liberties the essay allows, and its hospitable attitude towards irreverence and irony. I prefer its looser form, as compared to the more focused and specialized mode of the scholarly monograph. My most ambitious prose pieces deal with literary and cultural history; they have appeared in Comparative Literature, The Journal of the History of Ideas, The Yearbook of Comparative and General Literature, Cadmos, Translation and Literature, Sincronie, Serials Librarian, and The Dictionary of Literary Themes.
